HMRC is considering plans for a centralised scheme to deduct tax directly from workers’ pay packets before salaries reach their bank accounts.
Under the “Centralised Deductions” scheme, employers would no longer be responsible for deducting tax from their workers’ pay packets and instead would give information on the gross salary to HMRC. The taxman would then deduct national insurance payments and income tax, as well as any student loan payments, before the money was paid into workers’ bank accounts.
