The NS & I have launched saving certificates which pay interest at the same rate of inflation (currently 5.3%) plus 1/2%.
This is also tax free and is backed up by UK Government money so is as close to a risk free investment as is possible.
Investments are available to anyone over 7 years of age and amounts of between £100 and £15,000 can be invested.
This should be very attractive for savers.
